The December 2008 line-up:
TRAIN-OX CART RACE – Although the train was the fastest means of travel in 1880, there’s one instance of an ox cart being faster. (Picture is of the Train-Ox Cart Race)
SHERIFF LUND – As Sheriff Lund discovers, just because the law is on his side, it doesn’t mean it’s easy to chase down the outlaws.
BILL PICKETT – As many as a third of the Old West cowboys were black. One of the greatest was Bill Pickett. He even invented a rodeo event.
THE SILENCE CURE – An 1800’s nerve specialist’s cure for nervous prostration and insomnia in women was silence.
NELSON STORY – In the Old West men took risks. Nelson Story took risks all his life and was very successful.
JOHNNIE BRUGHUIER – Johnnie’s story is a perfect example of how a seemingly devastating event can open opportunities beyond one’s imagination.
DOC HOLLIDAY'S LIFE SAVED – In this instance Doc Holliday’s life was saved not by a pistol or a knife, but a match.
TOM O’FOLLIARD – Although Tom wasn’t well known, he’s presently buried next to Billy the Kid, because he was Billy’s best friend.
WILLIARD CHRISTIANSON – Since there were no police academies in the Old West, Willard Christianson decided to use a “hands on” program, by first being an outlaw.
FETTERMAN'S MASSACRE – Captain Fetterman said he could safely ride through Indian country with only 80 men. He got his chance. The ride was over in minutes.
JOHN CHISUM – A cattleman who was in the midst of the Lincoln County War, but his involvement wasn’t that clear.
MONTANA VIGILANTES I & II – Henry Plummer and his “Innocents” controlled the goldfields of Montana, until the local citizens formed an Old West version of a neighborhood watch.
JOHN PHILLIPS RIDE – This is the story of a man and horse enduring devastating weather and wild Sioux to save a beleaguered garrison.
HELENA, TEXAS – The story of how a single bullet had the ability to kill a whole town.
JOHN REYNOLDS HUGHES – Although Christmas is known as the beginning of life, in 1887 it resulted in the ending of two lives.
CHRISTMAS WITH BEN THOMPSON – In the Old West everyone didn’t spend Christmas at home with their family. For Ben Thompson it was just another opportunity to drink and kill.
MOSES AUSTIN – It very well could be that if Moses had not failed in a business venture, Texas, as we know it, would not exist.
RUFUS SOMERBY – You’ve heard of men who have gotten in trouble by deserting the military. Rufus got into trouble by joining more than one branch at the same time.
CHARLEY PARKHURST – One of the Old West’s best-known stage drivers was discovered to be living a life of deception.
WOUNDED KNEE – Without a doubt one of the worst atrocities in the Plains Indian Wars, it was one that neither side really wanted.
MARION HEDGEPETH – Marion learned his trade of outlawry in the West, but practiced it in the East.
CYNTHIA'S NEW YEAR'S DANCE – This evening of celebration ended up in death. And, interestingly, it wasn’t caused by alcohol.
