Stampede Tour - On the Road posted by Dakota Livesay

Friday, May 30, 2008 Stampede Tour Logo

While at the Big Bear Wild West Story Fest Dakota tried something new in his story telling. He portrayed an 1869 Texas cattleman getting ready to take a cattle drive to Kansas. The audience was the cowboys who had just signed up for the drive. Dakota gave them an orientation on what’s expected of them and what they should expect on the drive.

It went over very well. Several people commented that they actually felt they were getting ready for a three month drive.

We just spent the weekend at the Wild West Story Fest in Big Bear, California. Dakota was one of the performers and the MC of the Saturday evening banquet. It was an absolute ball. The committee and volunteers that put it on were wonderful. And the attendees were gracious.

The only problem was that it took place outdoors, and even though Memorial Day weekend is the kickoff for the summer, the temperature stayed below 40 degrees. As you can see, most everybody bundled up.

After a couple of days at Desert View RV Park in Needles, CA we’re headed out to Barstow, CA on our way to Big Bear, CA for a story telling event at which Dakota will be performing.

We sure are off sync when it comes to the weather. When we were in Williams, AZ the temperature was in the 20’s at night. Now that we’re at the desert of California, the temperature yesterday got up to 110 degrees.

After almost two weeks of fun in Prescott, Arizona at Point of Rocks RV Park, we’re headed out toward Big Bear, CA and their Story Telling Event.

We’ve enjoyed our time at Point of Rocks. There are quail and other wildlife all over the place. Each morning and evening we took walks with great scenery.

We had a wonderful Mother’s Day. Sunny got her phone calls from the children. And we went to Sedona, AZ for a Mother’s Day Brunch at our friends, Mike and Kitty Cahill’s, restaurant, Barking Frog.

It was one of the more memorable meals that we’ve had in some time. The food was outstanding, and the service and atmosphere was wonderful. We would recommend it to anyone.

Yesterday was our 30th wedding anniversary…And they said it wouldn’t last.

We went out to dinner with friends Dick and Donna Cross. It was Donna’s 31st anniversary of her 39th birthday. Figure that one out.

I think the key to our successful marriage is that we are not only lovers, we are also best friends.

Sunday we traveled from Williams, AZ to Prescott, AZ…about a three hour trip. Every morning when we woke up in Williams the temperature was below freezing. And each night our water hose froze. But, by 8:00 am the temperature was in the high 30’s, and we were in business.

This morning at 5:00 am the temperature was 50 degrees. A bit of a change.

We’re staying at Point of Rocks Campground and will be for about ten days. We’ve stayed here before, and Jake loves it. The campground is surrounded by rocks, and he loves climbing the rocks.

Here are a couple of pictures of his climbing expertise.
