Wednesday Dakota did an on-line interview with Noel at KLGT 92.9FM, in Buffalo, WY. KLGT plays the daily radio show. Its sister station KBBS 1450AM plays the weekly show at 8:00 AM on Sunday. People have been known to arrive late for church because they’re sitting in the parking lot listening to the last of the show.

Here is Dakota preparing for the interview.

Yesterday we received the following email:
“My son Miles Bruggman is serving his country in Iraq. Last year I bought a subscription for my dad, Roy Bruggman. We send all of our old copies of your paper to our son. Recently we received a photo of our son and two other soldiers in full battle gear holding their M-4 rifles standing in front of an Assault Security Vehicle reading your paper. If you would like I will send you the picture. Thanks for a great publication! Sincerely, Paul W. Bruggman" Of course, we asked that he send the picture....
"Our son Miles is the soldier on the far right. I am sorry but I do not have the names of the other two soldiers.
Paul W. Bruggman"

The interview on KIML with Steve Norris was a lot of fun. As we drove up to the Gillette, Wyoming station there was an antelope buck and doe in the front yard. When we left, they had been replaced with a small bunny rabbit. I’ve been in this area before, but I don’t think I have ever seen as many antelope as I’ve seen this time.
The picture is of Dakota and Steve during the interview.

We’re spending the night in Buffalo. Dakota has an interview with the people at Fort Phil Kearny. He’ll be recording a segment about the Fort, Wagon Box Fight and Fetterman Massacre for the hour show.
Before heading out to the Fort, Dakota will be doing an interview on KLGT.

We’ve made it to Gillette, Wyoming. Saturday night was spent in Raton, New Mexico. We got some rain yesterday and today. It was an interesting drive from Douglas to Gillette on Route #59. I would swear there was a dead rabbit, or piece thereof, every fifty yards or so. We didn’t see a live one…I’m sure they weren’t all a piece of the road. It must be that they come out at night. Dakota has an interview Monday at 7:00 am with Steve Norris of KIML 1270 AM. He’ll find out the story on the rabbit road, Route #59.

Today is National Day of the Cowboy. According to Gordon Eaton, our sidekick #001 and a postman, “I'll be wearing my cowboy hat on my route and humming great western ballads.” Dakota will also be wearing his cowboy hat…But, then, he wears it every day. Because he can’t sing a lick, he won’t be allowed to hum. Hope you celebrate the Day of the Cowboy in some special way.

We’re busy packing for our trip to Sheridan, Wyoming to attend the annual rendezvous of the National Outlaw And Lawman Association (NOLA).
On the way up we’ll be stopping in Gillette, Wyoming for a Monday, 7:00 AM interview on KIML (1270 AM). Steve Norris and I will be talking about the Old West. Then Tuesday morning we’ll be in Buffalo to do the same thing on KLGT
( 92.9 FM) and KBBS (1450 AM). On our way, we’ll be stopping by some of the great libraries to stock up on stories for Chronicle of the Old West newspaper. Dakota is on the board of directors for NOLA, and he has to be in Sheridan for board meetings Tuesday and Wednesday. Beginning Thursday through Sunday the rendezvous will be held at the Sheridan Holiday Inn, 1809 Sugarland Dr. If you’re in the area, stop by and say, hi.

My webmaster, Lynn Nyen, has been on me for not doing a good job of keeping our “On The Road” section updated. Lynn, and everyone else, this is a commitment to do much better. The August edition of Chronicle of the Old West newspaper goes to the printer today. It will be printed tomorrow, and at the mail service on Monday. It contains some great articles, including one about Wild Bill Hickok. It’s interesting to note that the newspaper misspelled his name as “Haycock.” We normally change these mistakes. But this time we thought it would be fun to leave it as it was. We’re also getting the oil changed, tires rotated and a general checkup on our truck, getting it ready for our trip to Sheridan, WY for the National Outlaw and Lawman Association (NOLA) annual rendezvous. It’s a 2,300 mile round trip. (See our calendar.)

Dakota performed the first of July at Bison Ranch in Overgaard, Arizona with the Mountain Saddle Band. They sang cowboy songs, and Dakota told some of his true stories about the Old West. Then they wrapped things up Saturday evening with Old West Chapel.
Here’s a picture of the Mountain Saddle crew. Going left to right: Steve Harrington, Pete Dyson, Davylyn Dennison, Blaine Poe Sr., and Blaine Poe Jr.

Hope you had a great Independence Day celebration. It was sure strange having the 4th fall on a Tuesday. Mentioned that to a friend. He responded by saying, “They ought to change it so the 4th of July always falls on a weekend.” I said, “Ya, sure. You ought to take that up with the guy who prints the calendars.” Now, he’s some high mucky-muck with the state. And, he might just do it too…at least for Arizona. You do know we don’t play that daylight savings time game like the rest of you. I’ll keep you updated on the progress.

Wouldn’t you know it, about the time we get the “On The Road” page up and running again, my email goes down. Boy, do I love technology. I really do…when it works.
