Sunny and I have spent the last few months checking out traveling homes for our two-year trip throughout the West. We’ve looked at both motor homes and fifth wheels. Since I’m 6’ 5”, the main criteria has been the height of the rig.
Now days the motor homes come with a seven foot plus height. And, are they luxurious. Unfortunately, they’re a little costly for this country boy. I figured that we could stay at a five-star hotel for five years for the price we would have to spend for one of those things.
So, we’ve settled on a 34-foot fifth wheel. The brand that’s the front-runner at this point is a Montana. The model we like has four pop outs. There’s a nice kitchen for Sunny and an office area for me. And even though I won’t be able to cut wood and build a fire each day, there is even a fireplace…electric, of course. What have I stooped to?
I think we’ll be getting a one-ton Dodge diesel to pull it. I have a ¾-ton Dodge with 190,000 miles on it, and it has served me well.
Now, I know everyone has their preferences in fifth wheels, and the same with diesel trucks. So, what’s yours? Click on the “Contact Us” plank above, and tell us if we are “right on”, or need our heads examined. And, if you think we need an examination, what you recommend as a cure, and why.
Thanks.

Our weekly show being aired the week of February 20-26 took place during a weekend with a group known as the Earpatics. We traveled to the Parker, Arizona area to view Wyatt Earp's camp, mine and home where he spent much of his later years. Below are pictures taken during that weekend.

Dakota & Sunny at Earp, CA. Yes, there is such a town. Today, all it is is a post office.

This is the home where Wyatt & Josie lived.
This is the only home where Wyatt lived that he actually owned. The front porch and back section have been added on since Wyatt lived there. It was originally a two room home. They used an outhouse, and cooked outside.
The top picture is where Wyatt and Josie spent their happiest time together. They would spend months at a time here. The picture below it is how the area looks today with Sunny, Dakota and Jake taking the place of Josie, Wyatt and their dog.

Dakota at the mouth of Wyatt Earp's mine.
Wyatt hired others to do the mining. It produced a low-grade silver ore.

Jim MacGregor and Dakota recording a part of the show at the end of the day.
Jake is making sure no bad words get on the air.

For about a year Dakota has been telling stories about people and events from the Old West at the White Mountain's monthly Cowboy Chapel. A photographer and reporter from the White Mountain Independent attended the last Cowboy Chapel. This picture appeared on the front page of the next issue...Guess it was a slow news day.

Dakota isn't giving the audience the "what for". He's telling the story of a defiant 1800's woman who confronted some outlaws by pointing her finger at them and telling them she wouldn't allow herself to be taken as a hostage.

We've revised our "On The Road" page to better reflect what's happening around Chronicle of the Old West. This will not only reflect our current travels, and preparations for the big "two year trip" this spring, we'll also let you know some of the happenings around "our place."
This isn't intended to be a diary...Although I've done a lot of writing over my lifetime, I've never written, or even been interested in writing a diary. We won't be posting something every day. But we will be making entries on a regular basis.
For those of you who listen to our radio shows...and with 165 stations carrying them, the numbers are growing every day, we'll be posting information on where we go and the people we talk to on this page.
This page is a one way street...from us to you. But, if you want to make any comments or have questions just go to our "Contact Us" plank, and send us an email.
Hope you enjoy it as much as I believe we will.
Dakota
