An interesting aside about our visit to Vekol Ranch. The ranch is located about sixty miles from the Mexican border. When we arrived there, we saw stacks of bicycles. Now, I know that some ranchers are using ATVs, but bicycles?

So, I had to discover the story. Well, it seems that the illegals use the bicycles to cross the border and carry their personal items. It takes them about 24 hours to travel the sixty miles. And the bicycles are abandoned in the area of Vekol Ranch. The cowboys come across them as they ride the range, and bring them to the ranch. Incidentally, they come across a lot of other abandoned items…including drugs.

We had a great time this past weekend at Vekol Ranch located near Maricopa, Arizona. There were around seventy-five people who showed up…many with horses.

The food was outstanding. I can assure you, no one went hungry.

Friday night we heard some great live cowboy and country music. During a break in the music, I auctioned and raffled off a couple thousand dollars worth of merchandise.

It’s always great having fun raising money for a good cause. And, the “National Day of the Cowboy” is a great one.

Saturday we went on another ride, and spent the rest of the day swapping stories. I did some recording for future shows.

We’re headed down to Queen Creek, Arizona…a suburb of Phoenix…to attend a fund raising weekend for the “National Day of the Cowboy.” There will be a trail ride, live cowboy music, good food and I’ll be conducting a live auction.

When we get back, we’re sure to have pictures and stories.

The Chronicle of the Old West radio shows continue expanding as KLPW in Washington, Missouri picks up our weekly show. They’re a talk radio station located at 1220 on the AM dial. We’re looking forward to working with Karen Stratman and all the great people KLPW.

Incidentally, Washington is located just west of St. Louis.

We have just picked up another radio station for our daily radio show. It is KAMS FM 95.1 covering the territory around Thayer, Missouri and Mammoth Springs, Arkansas. That’s the area of the Ozarks.

Mike Crase and the gang are playing the show each day at 3:15 in the afternoon.
